Colleen will attend either UW-Madison or UW-Eau Claire this fall and major in music education. Her goal is to become a HS Band director. Colleen shared, "Poms is an expression of the joy of dance, but it is so much more. It has deeply affected who I am and who I will become. I am grateful to have had the chance to develop leadership skills that will continue to grow as I pursue my goal to teach.    A scholarship in the name of Jennifer Heidel Semmann will be awarded this spring to a deserving young pom pon/dance team member.
Jenny passed away suddenly on January 20th and is survived by her husband Mark and daughters, Elizabeth and Christina.
Jenny will be remembered as an avid advocate for the youth of the Germantown and Cedarburg communities and supporter of all school activities. For the past seven years she served as principal at MacArthur School in Germantown.
In Germantown you could see her watching the recreation department pom classes and rooting on all of her students on the performing teams.
We will always remember her smile and energy as one of the first Miss Badgerette Open winners. She held that title in 1981 and was also second runner up overall in the Miss Badgerette Contest. Her team, the Germantown Warchix, earned the title of Grand Champions that year.
Our condolences to her family and friends. She will be missed.

Scholarship Recipient Honor Roll

2007 - Jessica Kanitz - Greendale, WI

I just wanted to thank you again for the scholarship that will definitely help paying for my second semester at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. It's hard to believe that in a few months, I'll already have a full year of college under my belt. My fall semester was so rewarding, I know spring can only bring good things. After five weeks of an amazing break from classes, I head back on Wednesday for Exec. training. I had the opportunity to run for a leadership role in my hall, and I was voted the Secretary. The leadership skills I have learned from all my high school experiences, including what I have learned from Badgerette have influenced me greatly.

I hope to still help with Greendale Stars so I can still keep poms in my life. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to attend Spirit, but I'm sure it will be a great chance for all teams to see each other again. After exploring the website a bit, I saw the t-shirt design, and it's adorable! I hope everyone at Badgerette is doing well, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Sincerely,
Jess Kanitz

2007 - Kayla Oppermann - Brookfield East, WI

Thanks again for playing a big role in funding my education. My first semester went really well and finals were great, so I’m really excited to see what next semester has in store for me.

Love, Kayla Oppermann

2006 - Jenna Franklin - Germantown, WI

Sitting here writing this over my Christmas break, I'm amazed at how fast college is going. I cannot believe that I am halfway done with my sophomore year already! This past semester at Marquette I was able to take a really interesting political philosophy course. It was by far the most intellectually challenging course I have ever taken, but I walked away from it having learned so much not only about one of the fields I am interested in, but about myself. Overall, my first semester was very challenging, and a little stressful, but I finished with a 4.0 and Deans List Honors. It feels great to know that hard work really does pay off. I am still pursuing a double major in History and Political Science, with a minor in Spanish. Every day I love Spanish more and more, hopefully one day I will be fluent! Aside from classes and studying, I continue to be involved with a dance organization at Marquette called Dance Inc. I choreograph for and dance in our shows, and was recently elected Vice President. With that title comes a lot of extra responsibility this coming semester, but I am very excited to be even more involved and work to make the organization grow even more! I also continue to teach for the Germantown Recreation Department, coach the Germantown Power Poms and Pixie Dust, and coach the Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School dance team. All of the above keep me quite busy, but I enjoy every minute of what I do! Most of all, I am forever thankful for the Badgerette organization and everyone involved in it. The Badgerette Scholarship is such a wonderful thing and I am so grateful to have been a recipient of it. I am very appreciative for everything that Badgerette has done for me and for my college experience. Have a blessed 2008!

Much love, Jenna Franklin

2006 - Kristin Radomski - Catholic Memorial, Waukesha, WI

My second year at UW-Madison has been even more exciting than my first! As I study business, I have been enjoying the opportunity to work on project teams in my marketing and human resources and management classes. I am still studying Spanish, and aspire to be fluent before I graduate. The highlight of my week is definitely ballet class. I can receive credit for continuing my passion for dance as I brush up on my technique. In my free time, I am teaching the Emerging Leaders Program which develops leadership skills in UW-Madison freshmen and sophomores. I also stay busy serving as a committee chair of the Student Leadership Program and a Marketing committee rep for Students in Free Enterprise Organization. Of course, I love spending fall weekends with friends cheering on the Badgers football team at Camp Randall! I am grateful that I had the opportunity to attend Badgerette Pom Pon Camp and Midwest as a coach this year. In addition to keeping our school’s poms traditions alive, I learned so many valuable leadership skills that I have applied to my everyday life. I am looking forward to making plans to study abroad in England and make the most of my college experience!

2005 ~ Lindsey Einseidel-White - Brookfield Central, WI

Hi Badgerette!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year! I can't believe it's already 2008! I just completed my first semester of Junior year and it's hard to believe that I only have a year and a half left of college! I am still enjoying the warmth and sun of Florida and am so happy with my college experience so far. This upcoming semester, I will be working as an intern at the state capitol under Governor Charlie Crist and I couldn't be more excited! It's going to be a great opportunity to learn more about careers in my major and gain valuable experience! I was also recently appointed to a position on my sorority's council board, so I know it will be a busy and fun semester! I'm already looking forward to summer, and I can't wait to get back into Badgie Land! :) Thank you Badgerette for all you do and the lives you touch.. you will always hold such a special place in my heart. I will see you all so soon and I wish you all a wonderful start to 2008!

2005 ~ Sarah Konop - Germantown, WI

Hello Badgerette Staff and Dancers~I can't believe how quickly these past years have flown by...I am just getting started in my junior year at UW-Oshkosh pursuing a degree in Finance. Classes are getting busier and my internship as a Pricing Analyst for Oshkosh Truck Corporation has also kept me busy. I feel like we are all growing up too fast! My girlfriends and I have moved into our first apartment and it has been so much fun. Unfortunately, however, I do not have time to be a part of the UW-Oshkosh Dance Team this year, but I am continually supporting all the girls. I encourage all dancers to try-out for their colleges' dance team or find a fun club to join. You can meet so many people and even though you may be busy, it will all be worth it in the end. I have not completely let dance leave my life; I continue to be involved through judging various highschool competitions throughout the state. I hope all is well, and I am looking forward this this upcoming year and would like to wish luck to all the dancers this season! ~Sarah

2004 ~ Jenny Lockwood-Cudahy, WI

I am doing great-I am in my 3rd year now at UW-Madison, and I am still a pre-pharmacy major. I was recently accepted to Midwestern University School of Pharmacy in Illinois. I am also interviewing at University of Minnesora and UW-Madison Pharmacy schools. I am hoping to know where I am going to school next fall by the end of March. The application and interview process has been long and intense so I am glad it is almost over. Thank you for all your support - through dance & school - you all are true inspirations. Hope all is well for everyone!

7/7/08    Hello Everyone!! I really do not know where the summer has gone. I finished student teaching in the middle of June and have officially graduated. I had my first interview this past May and they called the next day to offer me a job. It was crazy but I accepted it. I will be moving up to Phillips, WI. The town's motto is "The Northwoods is our Backyard." I will really be in the middle of nowhere - it is crazy, but I am looking forward to it as well. The community is pretty poor, so the school qualifies for SAGE programming so my classrom will not go over 15 students. I also immediately loved the second and third grade teaching team and the principal was so down-to-earth, I just had to take the job. I really didn't think that I would end up teaching so far up north, but I am excited for a new experience. I guess I ended up back in a small town. It is a great community, located right on three lakes.

2003 ~ Samantha Stoll-Madison Memorial, WI

A lot has happened to me since the last time I contacted you. I graduated from UW-Madison in May 2007 with a BS degree in Biology. Along with completing all requirements for my degree I also fulfilled all the requirements prescribed by the Medical Scholar Program. I danced all four years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a member of the Dance Elite club and participated in shows both for Dance Elite and for another student dance organization called OPTIMA. Along with my preparations for medical school I was able to take classes in the dance department during my undergraduate years of study. I also worked at the university in a Howard Hughes Medical Institute lab focusing on evolutionary biology and genetics. I am now a member of the 2011 Medical School class at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. I have already had an exciting beginning at the medical school and am looking forward to the m any years of intense learning I'll be required to accomplish in order to be an emergency room doctor. Just as I did in high school, I have continued to shadow doctors in Madison emergency rooms and I find this type of medicine to be a good fit for my personality. On September 16th, 2007 I was honored at a ceremony at the university at which I received my first white coat and at which I was officially welcomed into the medical community. I have attached a picture of me in my white coat. I have been enormously grateful for the Badgerette scholarship I received which helped fund my undergraduate degree and launched me into my current life as a UW-medical student. Once again, thank you for your support. I have fond memories of my days as a pom pon dancer and am grateful the all of the opportunities that the Badgerette organization made available to me.

I'm now in my second year of medical school at UW. Second year is definitely a lot busier, but it's also much more interesting so I can't really complain. Right now we're just finishing up hematology, and I don't have enough fingers on one hand to count the number of times we've had to draw each other's blood for the labs in this class. (Just one of the many joys of med school! But on the bright side, at least we'll be able to empathize with our future patients! haha) I'm also still very involved as president of our Medical Student Association, and that's definitely keeping me busy. We work on various student issues such as curriculum feedback,
tuition, community service, class fundraisers, social events, and much more.

This past summer I was in Boston participating in the Newborn Medicine Summer Student Research Program, sponsored by the Boston Children's Hospital. I was able to work on a qualitative research study, and I also did quite a bit of shadowing, particularly in the Newborn ICU. I loved every minute of it! (It seems like I change my mind about what specialty I want to go into every time I shadow a different doctor!) I am also in love with the city of Boston. I'll be going back to visit later this month.

Hope you're doing well! I miss you all!     :) Lisa

I graduated from Notre Dame in 1998 with a degree in Business Management and Sociology. After graduation, I entered a two-year, full-time volunteer program called the Inner City Teaching Corps in Chicago. I taught fifth grade for two years while in the program while also becoming a certified teacher. Over the next two years, I taught middle school history at the same school while earning my Master's in Elementary Education at Northwestern. I then worked and taught in the high school at Francis W Parker School in Chicago. I married Mike in 2004, and after having Andrew in July of 2006, I decided to stay home with the baby. I love being with Drew full time!
