1/2/2012 ~ I am just finishing my fifth semester of college en route to becoming a high school English teacher which goes to show time really does fly. It feels like just yesterday that I was dancing at the Spirit Invitational with my team. Even though time has passed, Badgerette still continues to be a part of my life. This past semester, I attended competitions, a judging certification, and helped out with an up and coming junior dance team. And as I receive the last portion of the scholarship I was awarded in 2009, I reflect on why I received the scholarship in the first place. It is with immense appreciation that I dedicate all of my accomplishments in part to Badgerette. Whether conscious of it or not, the Badgerette family has influenced many young women (and even some men) in the Midwest to become positive role models and active members in society. Never underestimate the power of positivity and know that what you do at Badgerette is invaluable to so many who hold the spirit of dance in their hearts. I continued my love of dance and expression in school by taking a Ballet class and also a Salsa class. Also, creatively, I've begun a portfolio of short stories which, for now, are just a form of self expression, but maybe you'll see my name on a book one day. What I am most dedicated to is teaching English. With five English classes lined up for next semester, I've realized this is really what I want to do with my life. This semester, I had the opportunity to do my field work with the seventh and eighth grade Special Education students at Grantosa Drive School. (See attached picture.) The experience felt like home, and left me grounded in my decision to teach. The students taught me more than a book ever will and I'm very grateful to have had the chance to work with them. So two and a half years later, I'd like to thank you again, Badgerette, for awarding me a scholarship.
~ My continued appreciation, KrisAnne Madaus

1/2/2012 ~ Can you believe its been over two years since I graduated high school? I am already over half way done with my time here at UW-Madison. Everything has been going great, and I am absolutely loving the Nursing Program. This was my first semester in the program, and I spent my clinical time on the Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant floor of the UW Hospital. I absolutely love every aspect of Nursing and realize how much all of my hard work over the past two years has paid off. Next semester I will be working at a different hospital with Adult and Pediatric Outpatient Surgery. I am very excited for that as well! Last year, I decided to pick up a second major of Spanish since I had continued with the language since high school and really love being able to speak it. I ended up studying abroad in Granada, Spain for two months over this past summer, which helped me get closer to achieving a second major while still being able to graduate in four years. What an amazing experience that was! I got to travel Europe while I was there too, seeing various cities in Spain, Portugal, France, and even Morocco, Africa! Thanks to the Badgerette Scholarship, I have been able to participate in awesome experiences like this. I am working part-time at two jobs, one with University Dining Halls, and the other in a Biochemistry lab on campus. I have continued dancing as well, this being my fourth semester on the club team here, UW Dance Elite. I love that I still get the opportunity to do what I love in the company of 20 other amazing dancers! We have a competition coming up in January at the Mall of America that I am really excited for! Even though I am keeping busy, this has probably been my favorite semester here so far, because I finally am able to be hands-on with my major and interact with patients. I have already learned so much about what it takes to be a nurse, but definitely have a lot more ahead of me in the three semesters that remain.
~Thank you and take care, Samantha Magyar

* Updated 1/15/10) I have just completed my third semester at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. I have enjoyed all three semesters and have worked incredibly hard to remain on the Dean’s List. Recently I have decided to double major. One of my majors is Music Performance. I am still deciding on the other major, but I have narrowed it down to Psychology, Math Education, or Communicative Disorders. On top of studying, I am employed by the School of Music as an instrument repair technician. This past semester I auditioned for the UW Jazz Orchestra and was accepted as the baritone saxophonist. I also play saxophone in Madison’s top Wind Ensemble. In addition to joining the Jazz Orchestra last semester, I joined one of Madison’s dance teams, Premiere Dance. I am very grateful for my experience on this dance team. I cannot imagine my life without dance. It also reminds me of all of the great memories I have with Badgerette! Once again, thank you for granting me your scholarship. Congratulations on your 40th anniversary and I hope to attend some of your events.

* Updated 12/23/11) I'm still enjoying the sunshine and palm trees in South Carolina. I have two semesters left at Columbia International University, where my major is Biblical Studies. I'm very involved in my church and volunteer at a women's crisis pregnancy center. I'll be spending this coming summer in Australia and after graduation, I hope to work as a director of children's ministry in a church. Thank you again for supporting my education. Congrats Badgerette on 40 years! Wishing y'all all the best!

* Updated 1/22/10) I hope you and the Badgerette Staff are doing well and starting 2010 with enthusiasm! Second semester started today and I wlecome it with excitement! Things are going fantastic and I thank you and the scholarship commitee for the generous contribution to my education! I am an RA for the 2nd year in a row and love it. Helping 44 freshman ladies with the highs & lows of college is a passion of mine and has made my experience even more worthwhile. Also, I plan to study abroad in Argentina for the 2010 fall semester - my scholarship will help with that. Thank you so much and take care!

* Updated 1/15/10) I just received the final part of my Badgerette scholarship! I cannot thank you enough for the opportunities I have been given through this wonderful company. I have been so blessed to be connected with Badgerette for seven years and have loved every minute of it, both as a camper and as a Badgie.
I'm currently a junior at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. I am majoring in English with minors in Secondary Education and French. Classes are definitely tough, but I have been on the Dean's List every semester thus far. I was on Luther's dance team my first two years, and I have also had the opportunity to perform in a variety of other dance shows through our theatre/dance program. This fall, I was a part of a Fosse dance piece, celebrating the work of Bob Fosse and his jazz style. It was so much fun! I am also involved in Student Activities Council, the English Honors Society and sing in Collegiate Chorale.
I really cannot believe how fast my college experience has gone by. It has been such an adventure! I have been presented with so many opportunities here at Luther. I studied abroad in France and Italy last January and it was an amazing experience! Next year, I plan on student teaching in the spring and graduating thereafter, in the spring of 2011.
Thank you again for having such a positive influence on my life as well as the lives of countless young women in the Midwest. I am proud to be associated with this organization and grateful to have monetary and emotional support from Badgerette for my education. Hope to see everyone at Spirit or this summer!

* Updated 1/13/09) Having completed my second semester in the Wisconsin School of Business at UW-Madison, I am enjoying the practicality of my classes and group projects as I pursue majors in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. I am very involved in leadership development on campus as facilitator of the Leadership Communication Seminar and chair of the Student Leadership Program. I also have the opportunity to inspire students to adapt a healthy lifestyle as a group fitness instructor teaching salsa/merengue dance-inspired aerobics called Zumba as well as Cardio classes at the UW Southeast Recreational Facility (SERF). I am grateful to continue my passion for poms, attending Badgerette camp and competitions as a mentor and coach for my Alma mater. Thank you Badgerette for continuing to provide opportunities that encourage dancers to work as a team and to strive towards achieving higher levels of excellence!

(* Updated 3/24/09) I applied my Badgerette scholarship towards my education at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha. In four years, I earned my Bachelor of Arts in English and certification to teach grades 1-8. I graduated in December of 2007 summa cum laude. After graduation, I substitute taught for various school districts in the southeastern Wisconsin area and learned a great deal from those experiences; I feel that they better prepared me for my current position. I am now teaching at 21st Century Preparatory School in Racine, WI. I teach all subjects to one of the two sixth grade classes; our school teaches K4-8. I commute to school everyday from the downtown/east side of Milwaukee where I live in an apartment with a beautiful view of the lake and city. I live right off of Brady St. which has given me great opportunities to enjoy great festivals, unique shopping, and meeting new people. Though my new career has kept me busy, I have found time to take hip-hop classes at Danceworks, a dance studio on Brady St. Also, my mom has returned to coaching at St. Catherine’s High School, where I did poms, and I was able to help out by choreographing their try-out routine and teaching it to them. I recently saw them compete at West Allis High School and was reminded of just how much I miss it! I feel so fortunate to have had Badgerette and the people involved as a part of my life; summer camps, dancing at Florida, and receiving the scholarship truly assisted in making me the person I am today!

A lot has happened to me since the last time I contacted you. I graduated from UW-Madison in May 2007 with a BS degree in Biology. Along with completing all requirements for my degree I also fulfilled all the requirements prescribed by the Medical Scholar Program. I danced all four years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a member of the Dance Elite club and participated in shows both for Dance Elite and for another student dance organization called OPTIMA. Along with my preparations for medical school I was able to take classes in the dance department during my undergraduate years of study. I also worked at the university in a Howard Hughes Medical Institute lab focusing on evolutionary biology and genetics. I am now a member of the 2011 Medical School class at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health. I have already had an exciting beginning at the medical school and am looking forward to the m any years of intense learning I'll be required to accomplish in order to be an emergency room doctor. Just as I did in high school, I have continued to shadow doctors in Madison emergency rooms and I find this type of medicine to be a good fit for my personality. On September 16th, 2007 I was honored at a ceremony at the university at which I received my first white coat and at which I was officially welcomed into the medical community. I have attached a picture of me in my white coat. I have been enormously grateful for the
Badgerette scholarship I received which helped fund my undergraduate degree and launched me into my current life as a UW-medical student. Once again, thank you for your support. I have fond memories of my days as a pom pon dancer and am grateful the all of the opportunities that the Badgerette organization made available to me.

(* Updated 3/18/09) Hello to all my Badgerette friends! It's been much too long since I've seen many of you, but I still frequently find myself fondly reflecting on the wonderful memories associated with Badgerette. It amazes me how much this program has contributed so much to where I am today, not only because of the Badgerette scholarship but much more importantly because of the values and spirit of teamwork instilled in this organization. I am currently a third year medical student in Madison, and I'm happy to report that I am about 15 months away from being an MD. (Incredible how time flies!) I am still very active in the Medical Student Association asone of our class co-presidents. As far as my career goals, I have decided to pursue a residency in dermatology, with the hope of doing a fellowship in pediatric dermatology. It's going to be a very busy year ahead with applications and interviews, but I am verymuch looking forward to it! Hope you are all doing well!
